Okay, so about a month ago, I purchased my first car, and it has been nothing but a headache since I've gotten it. If I could go a week without it breaking, I was doing well.

Now, my check engine light came on, and I had already paid way more than I wanted to for this car, and it was running pretty well, so I ignored it for a little bit, just until I could record a video of the sound it made so I could have someone like you tell me what it was. Then I'd have it fixed or fix it myself.

Some problems that I had because of it were the aforementioned sound I had, which occurred while driving normally, and I had difficulty driving up large hills.

I went to auto zone to get the light deciphered and they gave me this. http://i.imgur.com/MQedY8S.jpg

That sounds very complicated, so I probably will end up taking it in, but now it won't go. It either does one of two things.

This https://youtu.be/ZyzgqOIgNG4
or this https://youtu.be/V_in2LztI90 and then it shuts off

It's a 2000 Ford Escort zx2 with over 110,000 miles on it.

I don't know the engine size, but here is a sock for scale http://i.imgur.com/nPce7pt.jpg

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Excuse us for poking fun but ....That's a first...Been in the business since 67 and never heard/seen anything close to that.
Guess we should be glad you used a dirty sock and not your Sh!tty drawers.

If it was a bra, it would be a C cup.

It's a 2.0L engine.

The one thing unique to Ford is that while your cranking the engine the check engine light goes out if the engine computer is getting a crank signal. If the check engine light is staying on while cranking the engine, i'd be going after inputs. I don't know how many models this applies to, but I am sure it applies to yours.

Looks like you need to get it to your mechanic for diagnosis.

Well, that'll be a bit of a problem getting it there. If I can get it to run for long enough, I can drive it there, but I don't think I'd be able to get it towed due to the terrain where I live.

Say What?! If a tow truck can't navigate the road how the heck can the car?

If you got the car to where it is it can be towed. How much is another thing,

Well, I live in a cul-de-sac down at the bottom of a steep hill. I'd imagine it would take a bit of finagling, but maybe I'm underestimating what a tow truck can do.

Still, it'll be a while until I can afford getting the car towed and fixed. So I'd like to get it running myself if it's not too advanced.

Got it fixed a bit ago, and I forgot to post what happened.

It was the fuel pump. I had a mechanic come to my house to fix it.

Thanks for the advice, regardless. Smile

Citrus - I moved a useless post that you probably got a notice on that was above - wasn't YOU or a regular here.
Tread was just getting spammed and wasn't off to a good start.

Glad it's fixed now and will lock up thread as done. Ask any moderator if you wish it to be re-opened,
