The other day my car ( 2000 Grand Prix ) started moaning (not that loud) when I turned it on. The pitch and loudness increases with the RPMs. It's not that bad unless I turn the wheel, then it becomes much louder. The power steering fluid level is fine and the belt looks good. The sound comes from the belt area... Think its ok to drive? Any help would be great, Thanks.

You may have a power steering pump beginning to fail or there could possibly be some form of excessive pressure put on the system? The excessive pressure maybe due to a restricted line or control valve in the steering gear. Another reason for excessive pressures; could be if something in the front suspension or steering linkage were binding or seized. Making the pump work harder then it was designed too. Regardless take the vehicle in and have it diagnosed, before the thing lets you know on its terms; ie, breaking the steering gear and loosing control of the steering. Dan. Canadian "EH"
