Audi a3 2.0 tdi strange ticking noise! help! Sign In

Hi all :), new to this forum! had my audi a little while now and it is at 90,000 miles
the car seems to be running fine but once it has come up to temp and I've done 30+ miles constant without stopping it starts making a rattly ticking sound coming from what it sounds like the left of the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Of the common "ticking or rattling" noises exhaust or exhaust heat shields are common. Anything loose could rattle so you have to check and best while it's doing it. If it will only make the noise at speed it could be harder to find.

For exhaust and assorted loose items try tapping on parts (carefully and know which ones) with a rubber hammer, small bit of wood or something to see if you can find it that way,

Hey, cheers for the reply, I have had a look both in the engine bay and under the car and have seen no loose components or anything of that nature.
The ' ticking ' noise changes speed so to speak depending on when I rev the car. I have found a video of someone else's car which appears to have the exact same sound that my car is making!

Here's the link to the video :

Link to noise of another car didn't show. Much better if your exact car not another you found as no real telling if the same thing, it's yours that counts.

Engine RPM matters and you found nothing loose by tapping on things or yet. Next move is to take the belt(s) off and spin the items for one that doesn't feel right with belt off and note if noise is gone with a quick run without belt(s) - not for long, just to test then you know it's likely a belt driven item or not to focus in on.

If noise source remains elusive most techs if it will do it in front of them would find it fast and know what to do about it,
