95 Eclipse squealing noise from engine Sign In

Hi, hope you can help. I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS (non-turbo) automatic, 4cyl with 146k miles. Here's the issue...there is a loud squealing noise coming from the engine in the vicinity of the pulleys. It starts out intermittent then as the engine warms up is gets louder and steady. I tried to pinpoint where it's coming from but, failed. It sounds like one of those squeaky windmills you hear in the movies. There are no warning or caution lights coming on and my diagnostic scanner shows no codes indicated in the computer. I removed the drive belt and alternator belt, checked them for damage and wear, but they look good. I rotated the pulleys for the alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor and belt tensioner, but they all moved freely and without noise. All fluid levels are good (engine oil, tranny, power steering and brake). I'd appreciate any help you can give.

You can't always feel the bad item. Test would have been to run the engine with belt(s) off and if noise was gone it was one of them. Can use a mechanic's stethoscope if a pulley you can hear them. If nothing it's inside and could be trouble.

Duh - don't run engine long with belts off,

T
