2015 Subaru Impreza 2.0i - ratting noise near the front passenger wheel Sign In

Hey there everyone,

For starters, I'll link the video.
https://streamable.com/sojbsr

You can't hear the noise I'm describing really when I'm over the engine but a little further in the video when I get next to the front passenger wheel is when you can clearly hear the sound/rattling I'm experiencing.

The rattling while parked just started up within these past couple months. Before, and I'm assuming they're the same sound, the sound would happen when I accelerate up to 30-40mph but it wasn't constant. It would happen for a few seconds and go away, usually when I let my foot off the gas. If the sound was happening past 40mph then I have no idea as the highway drowns out everything.

I doubt this information will help but I got the car around this time last year and it had 49k miles on it, currently I'm at 53k.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The timing of that sound indicates a valve related issue.

I would remove the valve cover and look for something wrong in the valve train.

Great video, noises always tough still need attention. Job 1 is find it now, no more waiting.

IDK it's a noise of many in that some I expect. Other if you were deaf and it drives well is the front exhaust parts loose or perhaps bent or road damage could fool the diagnosis if just noise no other clues.

Always suggested is check fluid levels, engine oil actually full not just some "safe" zone the known full mark if you have to change it to really find out where it should be.

Nice looking, lower mile car do factor time not just miles for services for it. Good luck but hurry with this till solved sounds horrible,
Tom

Some others have told me on the Subaru subreddit that it may be the heat shield rattling against the exhaust and that Subaru is notorious for it. Do you guys think that lines up with what they're saying?

I appreciate the replies!

That would create a random tinny rattle/buzz. What you have is a sequential clap timed with the speed of the camshaft.

Yes to whatever it is. Shield? Tap on those + other things also exhaust parts along route w a rubber hammer - engine off may make a noise??

Noises can sound like it's going to croak + be just dumb something till known don't quit.

NS - the rubber hammer has a use after all :-)
