2010, Buick, Engine ticking & unusual noise Sign In

2010
Buick
3.9L V6
105,000miles

Check engine light has been on for a few weeks but I had gas cap issues, and check engine light issues I had with a faulty gas cap...was planning to take it in but did not have the chance yet.

Engine ticking started on interstate middle of last week but went away. On curving off ramps low oil pressure warning would come on but then go away. Engine temperature was fine with no performance issues. Happened 2-3 times spaced out 2-3 hours apart. Possibl sensor issue I thought...

Yesterday ticking returned while at highway speeds loud enough to hear in th cabin... It went away and then came back which freaked me out. Still no issues with temp/performance. Checked oil to see if it is low and two results had it a quart low so I put a quart in. This elevated the ticking of the first video.

Currently have 14% oil life, 5k miles since oil change, no low oil pressure light, no performance issues.

Then today the engine sounds raspy and like it is sputtering while idling with an unusual sound not present before.

Here are some videos of the sounds... Let me know what might be going on... Is it old oil causing this?

Tapping (intermittent... Heard while on highway yesterday)*video*

Humming raspy sound *video*

It looks like the crank pulley is wobbling a bit to me... Any ideas what is going on?

Please and thank you for the help. Worried the engine is toast. Scared I spun the crank bearings.

Thank you for your help.

The crank pulley wobbling and the oil pressure are 2 different problems and both of them very serious.

My advice is to stop driving it immediately and have it towed to a shop before you find yourself buying an engine.

I looked at the pulley again and I think it is just the engine idle which made me think it is wobbling.

As far as the low oil pressure warning there is nothing persistent saying it is having issues.

Can you hear anything wrong in the videos?

Yes, it sounds like a lifter banging, probably from no oil pressure. You need to stop driving it and tow it to a show as I already stated.

Thank you for the info, hard to get it in now as it is the holidays but I will asap. Do you hear anything in the second video that is out if sorts?

That's another different problem. Sounds like a bearing in one of the belt driven components. These things didn't all happen overnight. You should pay more attention to maintenance.
