2008 g6 GT new engine noise?	Sign In

My wife drove through a puddle (small lake) and threw a rod into her engine block. Dealer said she needed a new engine. New engine has been in for close to 2 months and has been making a noise only during initial accelerations. Sound is similiar to driving over gravel or gravel in the tank. No sound while driving just when the car stops and accelerates. 2008 Pontiac G6 GT. Tried putting high test gas in and noise still there.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is wide open to several possibilities. Did it do this right away after the fix? Have you been back to let them hear this in person and if not, why not?

This could be as silly as exhaust parts taking a sudden shock of hot to spashed/doused with water. Heat shield(s) may have taken a hit. If so you can usually duplicate that by selectively tapping on exhaust parts with a rubber hammer to locate then decide on the repair based on what if anything like that is found.

Was this an insurance claim like an accident? They make provisions for unseen damamage but only for so long,

I drove my wifes car a week after the new engine was put and I noticed it. It was an insurance claim. I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow, just wanted to ask around and see if it was a simple fix and arm myself with a bit of knowledge before I took it in. The engine is covered under a new warranty. The sound sounds like its coming from right under the the front of the car.

Without being able to hear it.......Just off the top of my head I would be thinking possible small exhaust leak?
