Hi Everyone, Can anyone help me on this one: Few days ago, my VW Touareg started to make a loud noise whenever I pushed it above 2000 rpm. The noise was coming from underneath the floor between the front and the back seats. It felt like the shaft is hitting the floor from underneath. So I took my VW to the mechanic which diagnosed it as a bad transfer case, which surprised me a bit but I let him replace it for an after-market one for a total of $1800. However, the day after he called me and told me that the drive shaft bearing needs to be replaced as well. This left me thinking that the guy has misdiagnosed the problem and I didn't really need to spend that $1800 on the transfer case and the only new part I needed was the drive shaft bearing. I will appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks! I will probably take my old transfer case to another service and see if it works if they put it back in my car.

Why would you waste the money to do that? You aren't going to get anything out of it beyond more space in your wallet. The damage is done. Going after the shop would probably be futile. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If I get the opinion from another shop, I can go to the Chamber of Commerce and request a refund.

Hahaha............. Yeah, they'll threaten them with a bad review.
