2007 Pontiac G6 Engine Sucking Sound Sign In

2007 Pontiac G6, base engine 2.4 and 120,000 miles, automatic.

I am hearing a sucking sound (best way to describe) coming from above/behind the glove box. It tracks with the engine RPM/gas pedal position, not speed. For example, at constant speed if I drop the transmission into 3rd from drive, the RPMs climb and the noise gets louder.

Doesn't matter if the A/C or fan is running or not.

Open the hood and listen as we rev the motor, no special sounds. Only hear from inside.

Have a cheap Wally World code reader, no codes. Its running fine and gas mileage is as expected.

Any ideas or just turn up the radio :)

thanks!

Just a hunch/guess for that description is air in cooling system some you hear like a rushing sound in heater cores many are flowing all the time if using heat or not. If that you'll need to know cooling system is full in the radiator not just a recovery tank AND should have it's own pressure as dictated by pressure cap when warmed up from cold and hold that a while when shut down can feel upper hose (with glove as necessary) for pressure. If none ever find out why now or if low on coolant except for just done recent work where it was drained and not properly filled not many nice reasons for that.

That can make the noise by description and guessing. Noises are very hard when there are no other symptoms than you said you hear it inside but not under the hood is tough without some checking. May or may not throw a code but would try for a better level of code reading if all checks out just because.

Slight maybe a vacuum leak of some sort would be unusual for that alone and no other issues,

T
