It's completely independent of the engine, as it doesn't increase or go away with more or less throttle, and it's definitely coming from the rear axle. It started immediately after changing the brakes. This same thing happened when I did the brakes on my old Explorer, and I originally thought it was the bearings, so I changed out the wheel hubs on the entire rear axle, and the sound remained; this seems to be the same issue, whatever it was before. Any ideas? I would jack car up again and isolate which side. Check the dust cove, sometime they get bent. Did you use a caliper compresion tool or just the good ol channel locks? Sometimes the pistons will bind . If both sides are making noise. I'ld say that someone sold you the wrong parts. Like the rotors being off set wrong .
