Since I got the car from my mom it has developed a noise that I can’t distinguish as a knock or a ticking. I know in each case what could mean what. Since I have gotten the car I have been tedious on the oil changing and filter, changed air filter just the basic maintenance. So far I have cleaned out the EGR and the Idle air control valve of all the build up and still no luck. Help is much appreciated in diagnosing the sound. Video just showed a pic for me? IDK - seems just since you acquired this you are taking care of it possibly trying to reverse neglect? Cleaning EGR is a low maybe at best and if you find build up of junk in you said the idle air control valve it really shouldn't have had suggests that. You almost never win reversing real neglect if that's the case. OK - you can't tell being there if this is a tick or knock so let someone who can hear it in person that can who is a tech. I can't compete with being there. Things you could try are take belt(s) off for a short run see if noise goes away if so shut down and find which item is making the noise. If not try to see if this is a sludged up engine if so that's real trouble. Can you take a video of you holding the engine rpm up? Does the knock/tick get worse if you float the engine?
