2002 Corolla Brake Noise Sign In

I have this annoying problem with my Corolla. Every day I back out of the garage-stop and then drive forward. Now the first time I brake I hear a crank/metallic noise .. but no more noise of subsequent braking. This happens again if I stop-reverse-stop and then go forward. The dealer said that there was some clip which was loose and I shouldn't worry about it ?? I took out the tires and closely inspected the brake but couldn't see any loose clip. Secondly recently I've occasionally started hearing squealing noise when I make a sharp right-turn ?? And thirdly, sometimes when its colder (I'm in WI) when I shift the gear from reverse to forward the car lurches a bit as soon as I release the brakes. Is this a diferent problem or is it somehow linked to the brake ?

Re: 2002 Corolla Brake Noise Sign In

Brake noise is probably the most common complaint with them. --It's usually squeeks or sometimes a grind that quickly goes away after using them once and that's it for the day, but you don't expect much of that from garaged cars or one that gets used daily.

I would love to know if a dealer told you not to worry without looking at the car. I wouldn't wait and get them looked at.

If what I keep seeing on the news is true with all the cars driving thru fairly deep water we will be hearing of lots of brake problems - they don't like being submurged.

If in fact this is some loose clip it needs to be looked at. Folks - don't fool around with brakes!!

The lurching I heard of on another 2004 Camry and is probably a separate issue. Be safe, - T
