1999 Mazda 626 Popping while turning Sign In

Hello everyone, I am by no means a mechanic and know almost nothing about cars, so I would appreciate the help and a little patients. Unsure

As previously stated, I have a 1999 mazda 626 with approximately 223,000 miles on it. Everytime I am making a large turn, I hear a popping noise beneath my feet. I was told that it was a problem with a CV axel, so I paid a guy to replace it for me. Although he did a great job, and my car drives a lot smoother, (I didn't realize how shaky my car was until then), it did not solve the popping problem. I'm not really sure what to do now...

Have seen a couple mazda cars make that noise when the chain inside the trans starts skipping teeth. If you accelerate hard from a stop, does it pop? Otherwise, have to get under there, look, and wiggle everything. Can be a bugger to find that type of noise.

thank you for your reply.

Now that you mention it, it does tend to pop when accelerating on a turn, although it does pop when I don't accelerate too. Before my dad gave me this car (almost a year ago), he put a brand new transmission in it, (I don't know why...it costed more than buying another car...). What would I be looking for if checking to see whether it was a chain?

If it's doing it when not accelerating you can pretty much forget the chain. It sounds like something is shifting in the suspension. The best way to find it would be on a drive on lift so somebody can be under the car as the problem is duplicated.

oh okay

well I suppose I will take it to a mechanic when ever I can afford to have them look at it haha...how much do you think it would cost in average to have someone just look for potential problems?

Most shops won't charge for that.

Can you record the noise your hearing and upload it to a video hosting site and then paste the link in here? Maybe hearing the noise may give us some ideas.

oh okay, well thank you guys for all of your replies! I will take it to a mechanic to have them look at it when ever possible, (i'm a college student and its exam week so it won't be soon), but I'll let you know when ever I figure out the problem! Many thank yous!
