1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4L Startup/Running Problems Sign In

As the title says, I have a 1996 Grand Am SE 2.4L with some problems. The vehicle has almost 132k miles on it. A month or so ago, the engine began running very rough. Engine misfiring, some sputtering when running. Took it to my grandpa for work (He's been working on cars 40-50 years or so) we replaced all 4 spark plugs, but we did not change the wires. A week or so later, it began missing again. We found found one of the wires had a small crack in it, so we only replace that now.

Now, I can hear a light popping noise coming from the exhaust. The car also loses power for a second, and catches when accelerating from a dead stop. Today a new problem started. When I go to start my car, the turns over and starts for a second, and then "stops starting" and it sounds like I'm lightly grinding the starter. Sometimes it only takes a few more times to start, other times it may take several (10+) tries to start it. Once it starts and actually gets running, it runs with no issues except the aforementioned popping and loss of power. If it means anything, with the key on the on position, I have lights, radio, etc etc.

Anyone got any ideas on what the problem could be. I'm fairly useless when it comes to vehicle repair in general, but could it be an issue with only replacing 1 out of the 4 wires? I was told by other people that when you change the plugs, you should also change the wires.

EDIT: Just had it put on a computer, and it's not reading anything on the car, as in no power is coming from the port for the computer to read anything.

Spark plug wires? Is this not a Quad 4 engine?

Also, if the check engine light is on, have it scanned and write down the trouble code number(s) and post in here.

Those are spark plug boots.

What about the codes as DS asked?

As I put in the edit, no computer will get any codes off the car. I've taken it to AutoZone as well as my grandpa, and neither can get anything off the port.

Then you need to get that communication issue resolved first. Test all your fuses using a test light.

I was told at AutoZone that the cigarette lighter is on the same fuse as the computer port. Is this true? If so, then it's not a fuse issue.

I asked you to test ALL the fuses.

All the fuses are fine minus a missing fuse for the horn. The problem with no computer codes began long after that fuse went.

OK, I guess you're going to figure this out yourself then.

What's a list of possibilities of what could be causing the original issue then?
