Kristina,

I think Camaros went to "rack and pinion" for steering but I'm not sure and couldn't be about the exact problem. You said the steering wheel comes to normal stops which has me confused??

I HAVE TO SAY IN ALL GOOD FAITH FROM THIS HONORABLE SITE TO TOW THIS CAR TO A SHOP AND GET HELP. TOO UNSAFE FOR COMPUTER GUESSING, T

when i said that... you know how when you turn a steering wheel all the way it eventually stops? i said that because i know that with some problems it will cause your steering wheel to just turn and turn and never stop... a free spin. i've had a couple of mechanics tell me that they think it might be a gear in the steering box from the description i gave them of what it's doing. i tried to find something about that in the repair book and couldn't find anything. is there anything you might be able to tell me?

TMK and other techs please jump in if needed, is that the limits on your steering wheel is by the front end parts hitting their limits. Forcing it only stresses PS pump and can't go further no matter how hard you try.

I've been in local junk yards and the cars missing steering parts still just had a steering wheel that would spin forever.

It's been an interesting education for myself to see the cars in various states of dismantling. They all get recycled here after parts that are usable are gone, T

I don't have diagrams for you sorry. Can say go underhood with steering unlocked and you can twist the shaft by hand and may discover something.

There should be a rubber shock insulator that could have failed but I've never seen that. That even if broken should not cause the symptoms you first posted, T

found the problem... two broken bolts and a stripped bolt. my steering box was just hanging there. it was actually very easy to fix once i found out what the problem was. took me 2 days to fix it and that was only because i had to get the broken bolts out of the holes.

Thanks for letting us and the world know. Seems like a rare problem but if that's what it was so be it, T
