3 Shops decline...... Hmmmm? All three said a lifter is not possible? Not sure as of course not there to hear it and would have to be.

Brian - I think the problem is (with the shops) that they don't want to own that problem if they touch it and it comes back without a total top end overhaul if this is the engine itself or could it be some funky exhaust noise being heard most of which get quieter when warmer.

What if you have gauges (just can't say what each option package does) the oil pressure look like at idle when warm? Perhaps as this is quiet when cold it's inadequate when warm as oil will thin and pressure wont read what it would in the first few minutes or a bit more.

Do you know why the head was replaced + reworked to begin with?

Not sure how far you want to go with this but perhaps try shop #4, get oil pressure checked when warm, pull that valve cover and could still all be unsuccessful without going nuts on this engine.

Maybe and has worked for me on many and all I use is synthetic oil is to try that and see if it changes or gets better. Can't hurt,

Oil Psi seems stable head was reworked because of overheat from previous owner. Tried different oils/ weights. I added motorhoney to see what would happen it stopped for a day. I am a mechanic but traded my toolbox for a degree been out of the shop for 9 years and now I am second guessing my thoughts on what to rule out. Lifter, valve, timing chain, rocker. Can't really pinpoint location of noise other than not the front head I understand it is rough / expensive to remove intake Plenum ..... OK I give

I am seeing the picture being painted here.

You did your own repair on the head the way you thought it should be done or maybe you bought it that way. Now there is a problem with the work and you are walking into a shop telling them what you think the problem is and they don't agree with you nor want to get involved. ....... What a surprise

and none of them want to work on your car. Do we see a pattern here?

As much as I try turning up my keyboard, I still can't here your noise and therefore have no idea what the noise is. Since nobody in your town wants to deal with you, you may just have to travel outside of town to get some help.

OK - This overheated you said enough to need a replacement head, ONE and that was redone presumably by a machine shop. Why just service ONE? You are a mechanic as you said and IMO if you had done that to a customer you would eat it.

The "oil honey" as you put it worked for a day - hmmm - there's your clue,

Re: 05 grand caravan ticking when warm Sign In

my 2 cents is on a bad or dirty lifter or oil passage.to be honest..we use a product called sea foam and have had great results with dirty lifters but won't repair a bad lifter. Its worth 6 bucks to give it a try..just wondering if the place didn't get a rocker torqued properly and ran loose..it happens...good luck

Or when they had the head off got a bunch of rockers, shims, and/or push rods mixed up. Some of those things have their own wear patterns and when you swap them all over the place can cause lash problems.

Motor honey? Can I put that on my pancakes?
