Hi, my van makes a almost car alarm noise intermittently, of course so the dealer can't duplicate. I have the AC on so it make be related to it. Everything seems okay except for the wierd woo, wooooo, wooooo, noise. It occurs with one or 2 "woos" quietly while I am driving, but mostly once I park and turn off the car it can do as little as one "woo" to 5 or 6, until it gets tired. Sometimes it is so loud it can be heard from a few feet away and is embarassing. Dealer thinks I'm crazy & if can't duplicate want to charge me diagnostic fee (haven't brought in yet) Honda corp. has no similiar occurances on file. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side dash. One dealer told me it was normal due to air filter??? HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know how this could be the air filter in any way if it can do it with the engine off??

This is almost certainly an A/C diverter door, vacuum reservoir issue, or perhaps the compressed gas of the A/C itself but pretty rare.

Someone is going to have to hear this as if the dash has to come out for the diverter flaps and that's BIG job, T

Thanks Tom,

What would happen if I don't fix it or if Honda won't b/c they can't duplicate? Could you give me specifics of what may cause each potential cause, how to verify if it is it, and how to fix, maybe even how much each may costs and how long it would take someone ideally to fix? Once again, thank you!!!

The cause of this is probably a defective part from new, or a collision that has unseen damage. This could be under $100 if just a funny split in a vacuum hose and may be fixable.

A problem in the diverter box could be a crack in a flap to the case itself and that could really cost likeover$1000 and could take some time to get parts if not something that could be glued, patched. That job is usually very labor intensive but could probably be done in one day. I don't that anyone is going to remove it without being pretty sure that the problem is there.

This could be something else too completely.

There just aren't too many things that can make noise both when driving and when you turn the car off. I will add that as the cooling system warms up and holds pressure and when you shut it off it gets hotter for a short while and the radiator cap will let pressure out to equalize it.

You said you thought the noise was on the driver's side but the source of it may travel. These problems can really cause hair loss. Sometimes I would swap cars with a mechanic if all are willing and drive it for a few days till some funny noise would do it.
One car I did find a bugle type sound but customer said only at higher speeds and when windy. That one turned out to be wind getting thru a pooly fitted new windshield. I taped it off with good masking tape and we test drove it and nothing. They took off with the car and best I could say if it doesn't do it again that's it.

That was a tough one. They were a livery service so needed the car and were going to sell it if it couldn't be found and fixed. That couldn't be your problem though as it can do it sitting still.

Let us know what you find and do't be afraid of the independent shops, T
