'04 Hyundai - Scraping Noise When Turning Right Sign In

I have a 2004 Hyundai Accent, manual transmission, 138k. My dad and I just replaced the rear brakes (drum brakes - new shoes, hardware, and wheel cylinders) on Friday. Today, after driving about 8 to 10 miles I heard a scraping noise when I turn right. The first time I heard it, I thought I hit a loose grate on the road, if that gives you a better idea of the duration and sound of the noise.

It sounds like its coming from the passenger rear wheel area and it is a probably only a 2 or 3 second noise when I turn right at normal traffic speed. There is no noise when I turn going slow in a parking lot, going straight at any speed, or making a left hand turn.

The right wheel cylinder was leaking brake fluid when we changed it and the whole thing was pretty messy, I don't know if that has any bearing on this or not. Also, I just had the front passenger wheel bearing replaced and am pretty familiar with that noise and this is nothing like it, unless a rear wheel bearing sounds completely different than a front.

Any ideas of what it might be or what to look for once the wheel's off? All help is greatly appreciated!

If you didn't have the drums machined when you did this, you probably are hearing a bit of rust or something of that nature scuffing on the shoes as you turn. The new ones are thicker than the worn out ones and the old ones had fluid on them which made them not make noise.

Double check that the wheel is tight and the bearing has no play in it. Sometimes coincidences happen after a repair.

Its always a good idea to get drums turned just like rotors when doing a brake job. Drums especially like to build up a rust ridge on the inside edge and it takes very minimal contact to sound horrible.
