'03 Camry has morning PMS- please help Sign In

I have a new '03 Toyota Camry with 12,000 miles on it. I took it to a repair shop for its checkup and the next day I hear a clicking noise when I turn the steering wheel. The clicking noise can be felt under my left foot on the floorboard. The funny thing is this happens only in the morning for about the first 5 miles of driving until the car is good and warm. I have called the Toyota service people 4 times now and have taken the car in to see if they can hear the sound (and they couldn't). They said it can't be from the CV joints etc because they've already checked that for wear and tear during my car's inspection. Also, they said they've never heard of something like this where the noise goes away. If it were a CV joint problem I'd always have the noise, not just in the morning.

I don't know what's temperature sensitive in my car or under the floorboard that would cause this.

I am pleading for some help. Please help me with this and letme know my baby is ok.

thank you!

These things cause hair loss!! They never make a noise when you need them to but it's an importent observation. Try leaving the car at a shop the night before - give them the full history.

If this happened exactly after some service - what was done? If something was bent while jacking up car that's a place to look.

This car has a great history and too few miles for common wear out items.

A rack and pinion problem would be a wild guess. Others here have any ideas?

Check for obvious stuff - like are the wheels tight!!!! and fluids properly full?

Good luck - let us all know what you find - it may help another,

Hi Tom,

The car is in excellent shape, the fluids are all topped off to their appropriate levels and good. I thought it could be the PS fluid but that looks fine. And if it was the PS fluid then I should be hearing the noise all the time. If air got into the system somehow, then I should be hearing the sound all the time as well.

I'm guessing it's some kind of loose bolt or something. The inspection was a standard inspection of rotating tires, checking fluids and transmission and checking parts. The dealership said everything looks fine when they checked it. I'm guessing they screwed up somewhere and messed up my car. It's no coincidence that the sound started after the inspection. If the service messed up, am I still monetarily responsible?

I plan on leaving the car tonight at the dealer and arriving in the mornng to check it with them. I fear that this is a serious issue because the car is too new to be having such problems.

If I do find something wrong, what should I do? Am I responsible for it?

thanks for your help on this matter!

RUN - don't walk!!!!!!!! Make sure the wheels are tight. Left side wheels will loosen and right side with tend to tighten while driving forward anyway. That inspection that removes wheels should be outlawed! It almost killed my nephew as the wheels fell off his car the day after one! He was safe - car destroyed and nobody hurt. Can't prove a thing about this either?? Stay safe and be well, I'm here to help you and so is this site - the only I've ever seen with a "funny noises" spot but it's real important but hard to describe sometimes and the dang noises never do it when you want them to. If need be - hit me at home email and we can talk about this, Good luck,
