Ford Fuma 2000 - brakes locking Sign In

Hi, my partners ford puma's (1.7 2000 65k milage) brakes keep locking up. The pedal will go stiff and the car will continuously slow until the breaks lock. After what we assume is it cooling down (usually an hour or so), the pedal will soften and the car will run fine. This so far only seems to happen on hot days are after short stops. I'm not particularly car savvy myself but I do know whats been replaced:

All cylinders including master, pipes and hoses, callipers, calliper shoes, pads and servo. We've also tried lubricating the pedals themselves.

It's seen multiple mechanics and we can't find anyone with the same issue online, no-one seems to be able to think of anything else. It seems a shame as it runs great brakes aside and has great milage for its age. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated Smile

Many thanks,

Nathan

When you stated servo do you mean the brake booster or the wheel cylinders? Are all wheels locking up at the same time?

Both have been replaced. We believe its only the front brakes, possibly even just the drivers side but cannot be sure.

Why can't you be sure? All you have to do is get the wheels off the ground when they are locked up and spin the wheels by hand. If you want an answer toi your problem, you have to be able to supply this info and not just guess about it.

Re: Ford Fuma 2000 - brakes locking Sign In

? Gotta lot of new stuff but doesn't always mean it's good or put on properly. See if you can find out if BOTH front wheels or one. One dragging hard usually has a lot of symptoms ahead of time.

Just feel wheels carefully and if warmer to hot vs others that one or more has the problem. When both fronts do the same thing the common denominator is usually the master cylinder mounted right where power assist would be. Even new, not many but some will allow dragging which is all odd brake behavior.

If you or partner just paid a shop to do all this you should take it right back! Either way it sounds like you still need a shop and tech to fix this whether a part problem or installation problem?
