Braking much too slow, Replaced most system parts, help! Sign In

Okay, so I am a DIY veteran, yet at best a "back-yard mechanic." Just wanted to preface my experience level though everything new on my truck, I put there with my own hands.

I'm and have been having MAJOR trouble braking efficiently. Badly enough so that I rear ended two other cars recently. My brakes stopped just in time to keep the severity down to a minor fender bender. After these accidents, I replaced the Master Cylinder, Vacuum Booster, and Brake Pads. I opted out of bleeding the brakes during the Master Cylinder job because I lacked a bleeder wrench and a floor jack (I did the Pads after the Master Cylinder when I got a new jack). After all these were brand spanking new I figured I had replaced most of the Braking System and my truck's brake problem would now be solved. But nope, just barely. I can drop the pedal easier but still have to double pump the brakes to get the pads on the rotor and even then the braking power is extremely weak.

I'm low on money and need to know for sure what I need to buy and replace now, or I'd just replace the Calipers, Rotors, Fluid, and Pedal Assembly.

What is wrong with my brakes? Please help me out, this is my first time consulting a forum of experts. Though I certainly intend to continue frequenting this site to gain knowledge otherwise inaccessible.

So, to clarify and simplify my issue:

I am having to double pump my pedal to get the calipers to push the pads on to the rotors.
When the pads hit the rotors they don't grip hard. They grip very weakly and require a much longer distance to stop and much greater and longer amount of pressure to get there.

Thank you for your time and interest!

That's common in those Maseratis

What make, model and year would help some but you've said enough for me already.

Two ACCIDENTS and you just toss parts, don't bleed brakes after a master cylinder but could replace pads, a booster you probably didn't need and you are out of money. No kidding.

#1 - Park this thing now. No telling if you should be doing these repairs at all. No offense but there are others on the roads even if you don't care about yourself or your truck that YOU are responsible for,

Well no money going around here. Just hand to mouth and that's my ride to work. Thought this was a professional forum. Didn't expect such an a**hole response.

It's a 1995 GMC Jimmy with the 4.3L Vortek V6.

(they were minor fender benders. no damage to either car, either time. that was just the easiest way to describe my situation with the truck).

Okay, if this is just a troll forum with the occasional comical remark I've clearly started looking in the wrong place.

See ya guys, and sorry to any who may have just answered my request for the rotor, fluid, or both question.

Sorry about the sarcasm but it really gets old when people ask for help and don't bother to tell us what they are working on.

We still need more info here

Is this 4 wheel disc?

Is your problem a high pedal with no stopping power or a pedal that is dropping to low when braking?
