2008 Mercury Mountaineer, V6, 133k miles. Replacing front caliper pads, and noticed lower caliper pin (bushing?) does not slide in and out with hand pressure. Boot is intact and old pads appear to have worn evenly, no unusual noise on braking. What should I do about this?

Obviously, you need to either free up that slide or replace it. You can usually remove the caliper and force it out. Then buff the rust off with a wire brush and lube it until is slides freely. If you can't do that replace it. If the pads have worn unevenly at all, do a complete brake job with rotors. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
