all new car paint jobs look like jbweld?

I've noticed that a lot of new cars have a "jbweld" kinda dull finish look. Is this just me? All the color and brightness are gone.
Is this some kind of new government regulation?

No, that's a new fad. People spend a lot of money to get that mess.
