Replacing car door Sign In

Hi,I drive a 2005 Chevy suburban. I need to replace my back passenger side door and I got a quote of 1800-2000 dollars to fix it at the garage. After doing some research, I feel like I can buy a door from a salvage yard for 500 and replace the door myself with a help of a friend. Does anyone have any experience in this? Would you recommend doing a diy or taking it to a garage? Thanks

If I remember right, that door is welded on, not bolted on so no, that would not be something you should attempt.

Hinge will be a total pest as HT said. Some of them you can only drill out!

At least thru '99 they were welded but could remove the hinge pin. Yes they are hard and big bucks for whole thing. If bent there it's real trouble,
