Paint-less dent removal? Sign In

Hey guys! Im rather new to this forum and actually joined because I have a question: What exactly is a paintless dent removal? I have ding in the side of my truck because some idiot smashed his/her door into it... and it just really bothers me aesthetically... I was researching different methods of "ding removals" and came across this one... only I have limited experience in dealing with car repairs so I dont know if this is the typical method used, how much it would/should cost, where to have it done, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Best I know and will use it if needed is that they are "massaging" a ding out from the inside. Not all in all places on a vehicle can be done - that I know.

Haven't used that service yet and dunno who or by what company would for your area. That you have to check on your own.

One is a drive in place somewhat near me. You have to check, they will have to look to see if it can be done perfectly, perhaps an improvement or what.

Absolutely these things must be seen in person to know then a quote. I do agree that if it can be done on already good paint that it's better than body work in the long run........

That can be done in a lot of situations. It requires a lot of training and special tools. Contact the place and let him inspect it. He will be able to tell you if your car is a candidate or not.

We have companies called Dent Wizard around here that uses the paintless removal. They charge by the size of the dent and it looks really good when completed.

So, this "massage" method is another option? Or is it similar to the "PDR"?
I read the following on a blog of a Westwood body shop, "Typically if the dent is small and does not have paint damage you can use PDR. Dings/Dents with damage to the paint or a crease in the panel would require more involved repairs to the vehicle." Does that sound about right?

Great to see you "way2old" master of the site!

OP - PDR is going to have to be seen. Not my trade and they keep their tricks private but it is (has to be) pushing OUT a flaw from inside.

The advantage is you keep your original paint. Paint will NOT age the same if it needed real body work that can be flawless too but you/they have compromised the original paint.

Thank God I haven't needed this yet as I have, restored or original mint cars and would freak!

Body work was something we discussed in training but not to be our trade. I absolutely know that those flaws are "stretching" metal whether a ding or a real dent/damage and both a skill and trade of its own.

Go for it if possible and I'm near sure no chance anyone here can say if it could be done or not without an on site inspection,

Sport - these people come to YOU. You have to find who in your area does this stuff. It's real and can work but said and beaten to death that they must see it in person to know if it can or can't be done,

No, most bady shops do not do this type of thing. This is a specialty trade and as tom said, most of them come to you.

OK... Well then I guess my question is, how do I "make" them come to me?
And why dont most body shops do this? is it really hard or just not cost effective?

Body shops are in the painting business. These people are not.

Just look through the yellow pages and call some people.

the yellow pages? Really?
Those still exist? I honestly havent seen one of those books in years! So if I was looking through the yellow pages for "these kinds of people" what would I be searching for?
