Need help entering autobody paint industry Sign In

My dad is a autobody painter (collision repair) and i want to become one too. I have worked with him since i was 10, but i really only know how to sand, tape, and spray primer. My question is could i put my work experience that i worked with my dad on my resume? Like would it be alright if i put down the company's name he works for since i was kinda his helper there or not? (im 19 by the way)

Sure you can, as long as you are truthful about what you say.

Certainly YOUR experience with your Dad counts a LOT! That's real apprenticeship and real learning for a resume. Whatever the trade there will be changes that even @ 19 you've seen. More and more plastic repairs instead of just throwing it out for new for any flaw and types of paints and products have changed fast too and YOU do need to keep up with the changes in what's available.

Both an opinion and observation: The trades are hurting for quality people to do the assorted things more than ever. I consider you lucky and a great bet to succeed at this with a head start many people wouldn't have. Use it and if you too like the work this is a chance of a life long career to serve you well.

Wish you all the luck possible. Learn more and more about what's changing and new and do even better. No problem at all with this scene at all,

Tom
