Hello, I am interested in a 2007 Jeep Compass Sport with 74,000 miles on it. I went to see it today and really liked except it has some slight rust and peeled paint. They are asking $4,895 for it. Before i go any further, or even take it to my mechanic to look over, i wanted to know everyone's thoughts about the damage. Is it worth it, is it going to cost a bunch to fix? Not worth it? Any advice would help. My mechanic isn't free until Wednesday so i'm let mulling over everything until then. Please see the pictures below. Thank you!

the automatic transmission -avoid the CVT transmission if that is what is In vehicle. The rear bumper - might want to see if it was replaced and if so what was extent of damage. Its a 2007 so some rust is to be expected - a professional will assess extent. Did I mention avoid the CVT trans if applicable. A 2.4L would be a good find but the smaller 2.0 is not bad. Do not skip having your technician look the car over. Good luck

thank you! would you say that rust would be expensive to fix? A friend of mine said upwards of $800 but that's seems a little much.

Looks like it got kissed on that side. I definitely have your mechanic check it out and then go from there. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Yeah it does, the Car Fax says no accidents though, is it possible they just didn't report it so it didn't end up on the report?

IMO that's hack body work and doesn't show on a report if owner paid for it out of pocket. If real rust all around avoid the vehicle but that just smacks of poor just cheap "Bondo" job for a fix which never lasts. Take a small magnet with you by yourself looking at suspicious body work where known metal should be bet it doesn't stick to that one area at all. Filler isn't meant to be that thick like fixing a hole or flaw in a home's wall type thing. Do wait for your mechanic to inspect this vehicle and the next as well if you pass on this one so far probably would pass on this one, T
