Electrical Fire Cause Toxic Interior?

2011 Dodge Journey Recently had a small electrical fire in the window control of the driver door which was repaired but the smell of smoke lingers in the car after extensive cleaning, airing-out and professional auto detailing. Smell is faint but whenever I drive it my throat burns and makes me cough. Would the interior be toxic now? are there health issues and can this be reversed? Thanks in advance for any advice -

I seriously doubt a health issue, just annoying. It should dissipate on its own or ask where you had it detailed. Unless it's still burning something I'm actually surprised it's lasted at all, T

Haven't seen the inside of the door panel on a 2011 Journey, but if they use some type of foam in there, it may be marinated by the smoke. How bad was this fire? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Very small fire. I put it out with a couple splashes of water. Dealer fixed and replaced all damage. Just wondering if it is something that will go away over time or if the smoke particles might be set in the interior fabric??? Thx for your response.

There are actually companies out there that specialize in getting rid of smells, so they may have an answer to your questions. I am by no means an expert in that field, but I believe you are right about particles of smoke being trapped in fabric. Don't know how long it would take for it to dissipate. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/dakota-odor-bomb-neutral-air.html?productid=dakota-odor-bomb-neutral-air&channelid=FROOG&utm_source=CSEs&utm_medium=GoogleProductSe# This stuff should get it out. The lid flips over and locks into the top like a bug bomb. Roll up all your windows, lock the lid and toss it in like a grenade. Shut the door and let the car sit for a few hours. This stuff is made for fires, skunk smell and vehicles where dead bodies weren't discovered for a while. I've used it on cars that nobody else could get the smells out of.
