2016 Honda Civic Rear Quarter Panel: Repair or Replace? Sign In

Took my new (4000 miles) Civic to two body shops today. Both agreed the back bumper needs to be replaced. The first shop also recommended replacing the rear quarter panel. The second shop said, that if it was their brand new car, they would fix the rear quarter panel, since there isn't a break in it. They said they could pull it out (going through the trunk?)...and that replacing it would make it more susceptible to problems in the future, such as corrosion.

Cost is not a factor, the at fault party's insurance will pay for it. I just want the car restored as close as possible to it original state.

Is it better to repair, if possible?

Any opinions or recommendations will be appreciated.

I don't know. Can you tell me if I have anything stuck in my teeth.

We both have the same advantage

To replace a quarter panel, the old one would need to be cut out and the new one welded in....

I can't see the damage, so I don't know how bad the factory one is, but if there is a chance at all the factory one could be fixed....and look good.....Then i would go with the factory one.....It would never be the same as was with the factory welds....

Not sure the picture showed up till edited later: OP - that should get a new quarter panel from Honda with all efforts to weld in exactly right as possible and painted as OE as possible.

Banging out what you have could look just as good but will show the repair faster IMO. Either way that car is no longer a clean low mile newer car and in time will show it was fixed. Most vehicles with that repaired will be marked as fixed up not original clean which reduces it's value overall you should also be compensated for IMO and would if mine as it lost OE status and get less for it in a trade.

Replace the panel would be the best choice to answer you question,

I'd consider saving the bumper before that Qtr panel.

That needs a new Qtr panel. It would require way too much filler to get the lines back again.
If the guy knows what he is doing, the new panel will be as professional as OEM.
